How do I use OpenAI Codex to add IDX to a real estate site?

Add the RealSavvy connector to Codex with one command, then ask Codex to add MLS search to your site. Codex saves a search or grid widget, gets the embed code (one script tag plus a slot div per widget), puts it in your project, and checks the live page. Listings show through the licensed widget, so no listing data lands in your code. You need a RealSavvy account with IDX.

Connect Codex

Codex works in the CLI, the app and the IDE extension. Get the URL at portal.agnt.pro, Website, Connect to Claude, Get my key. Then run: codex mcp add realsavvy --url <your connector URL> Or add it to ~/.codex/config.toml under [mcp_servers.realsavvy] with url = "<your connector URL>". Keep that file out of any shared repo, because the URL works like a password. Restart your session so Codex picks up the new server.

Add IDX with Codex

  • Ask: "What's set up on my RealSavvy account?" so Codex runs get_site and sees your markets and search
  • Ask: "Add a full property search page to my site."
  • For a neighborhood, Codex runs find_neighborhoods, then save_widget and preview_widget to see how many homes it will show
  • Codex runs get_embed_code and puts the loader script in the head or root layout and a slot div where each widget goes
  • Deploy, then ask Codex to run check_install on the live page

Rules Codex follows

Do not let any tool copy addresses, prices, photos or MLS numbers into your code. MLS rules require listings to show through a licensed display with attribution, and the widgets carry the MLS credit and disclaimers for you. Search goes in an idx-search widget slot, not a homemade iframe, and no domain or URL goes in a widget config. Load the loader script once per page, in the head or root layout.

What it costs

On Savvy Studio, the IDX add-on is $99/month (or $990/year) plus a one-time $99 IDX setup fee, on top of the Website plan at $99/month or $990/year. The Website plan includes the MCP connector. Additional MLS feeds are available. You can walk through the self-guided demo first, then sign up.

Which frameworks does the embed code support?

get_embed_code returns one script tag plus a slot per widget, with notes for HTML, React (including Lovable, Bolt and v0), Next.js, Vue, Webflow and WordPress.

A widget shows 0 homes. What now?

Ask Codex to run find_neighborhoods again or widen the widget's filters, then run preview_widget to check how many homes it will show before you deploy.

Can I move the site to hosted Savvy Studio later?

Yes. Ask Codex to run move_to_studio for the steps to move a site built elsewhere onto hosted Savvy Studio, if you would rather not maintain the code yourself.
